This ILAM professional qualification has been designed with you in mind if you have answered "YES" to either of the above questions. This course has been developed with input from both industry and educational sector experts to meet a very real requirement of the Industry.

This course is lesiure specific and practical in its application. Assignments are relevant and can be completed and applied in the candiates own work environment.

HOW IS THE COURSE STRUCTURED?

This course comprises of Six modules:

Management Theory

  • To give the participants an understanding of the principles of management, it's historical perspective and applicability to modern managment and supervsion.

Health & Safety

  • To introduce students to the principles of Safety Management in the workplace
    • Hazards/Risks
    • Risk Evaluation/Assessment
    • Employee Cooperation
    • Safety Statement
    • Training needs/Objectives & Methods
    • Specialist advice

Customer Service & Sales

  • To enable participants understand and appreciate the importance of the customer in the development and implementation of a sales and customer care programme, with a view to promoting and developing a service culture

    • Learn to interpret customer feedback in order to ensure the continuous improvement of service & gain that  'loyal customer'
    • Learn how to communicate effectively to customers
    • Learn how to resolve conflicts, identify & solve problems
    • Learn how to retain customers

Marketing

  • To understand basic marketing principles and techniques, and how to implement them within a leisure environment.
    • Give your Club/Centre the competitive edge it needs
    • Learn how to sell your Club/Centre & meet your targets
    • Obtain optimum utilisation for your Club/Centre

Facility Operations

  • To give participants a full understanding of the purpose, development and implementation of a normal operations plan for a leisure facility.

Supervisory Skills

  • To give participants a full understanding of the purpose and function of a Supervisor, in ensuring the effective and efficient operation and control of a leisure facility.
    • Learn how to identify approaches & methods for dealing effectively with members of the public
    • Devise & implement appropriate staff training programmes
    • Complete & maintain records in accordance with leisure centre procedures

 

WHAT WORK IS INVOLVED?

Each of the six modules comprises of 20 tutor contact hours  spread over 3 days. Candidates are also required to successfully complete a one-hour written examination, and a relevant assignment for each module. For one of the modules the candidate will be asked to develp and deliver a presentation rather than an assignment. An amount of home-based work is also required.
